There are laws for performing operations on matrices, evaluating determinants, and solving systems of equations using matrices.
Lesson Essential Question(s):How can matrices be used to organize and represent data?
(A)How can the operations of addition and subtraction be applied to matrices when problem solving?
(A)How is multiplication of matrices used to solve real world problems?
(A)
Lesson Essential Question(s):How can a system of equations be solved using inverse matrices, Cramer\'s Rule, and augmented matrices (with and without using technology)?
(A)Please use the following information to determine if you teach this optional section.
Matrices are no longer part of the standards in either Algebra II or Algebra II Honors. Nor are they a standard listed in Pre Calculus or Calculus. Many teachers believe that matrices are needed for further math study and for college. Though they are taught in Advanced Topics in Mathematics, many college bound students do not take that course but move directly on to Pre Calculus. If your students are developmentally ready, teach this unit on matrices.
Also include Language Arts Benchmarks LA.910.1.6.1 (use of vocabulary) and LA.910.4.2.1 (write in a variety of informational/expository forms, including a variety of technical documents (e.g., how-to-manuals, procedures, assembly directions)), when appropriate.
